We all wish we were getting fitter as quickly as possible. And we’ve all been told many times that just riding our bikes is only going to get us so far unless we mix it up with some other forms of exercise.
Exercise isn’t just for getting fit. If we want to live long and fulfilling lives, then it’s important that we get at least 30 minutes of exercise per day. It’s just one of many ways we can stay healthy, you can visit CFAH.org for more advice on that subject. Even so, most of us struggle to get motivated to change, often for many different reasons.
One of the most common issues is that the exercise we’re doing is just not fun enough. That can mean that we struggle to do as much as we should. However, there are a few things we can do to make getting fit more fun. Following are three suggestions to help make getting fitter fun.
1. Play Another Sport
One of the most simplest ways to make fitness more fun is to play a sport you enjoy. When you are playing a sport that you love, you are not really thinking about the exercise itself, you’re just playing. We ride mountain bikes because we enjoy it, now mix it up occasionally by playing some other sport we enjoy. Add that extra bit of motivation by buying yourself some kit like a pair of football boots or a basketball jersey for the sport of your choice.
2. Set Goals
Many people find that they are more likely to enjoy something if they set themselves achievable goals. If you don’t already have a goal, consider what your target you could set that you’d find challenging and yet enjoyable. For example, a goal could be to reach a certain weight or to clean a difficult trail or climb. Whatever the goal might be, turn it into a game and you will find that you have a lot more fun getting fit than you would mindlessly repeating exercises.
3. Compete
Buddying up with someone like a good friend can make fitness a lot more fun, for both of you. A little friendly competition, whether it is trying to beat each other to the same goal or literally racing each other is going to help you improve much quicker and make the whole experience much more enjoyable. Find the right person, enjoy some friendly competition and watch yourselves push each other to improve. Of course, you’re not limited to one person, you could do the same with as many people as you ride with regularly.
